Mount Singai is well known with its pilgrimage goal among Catholics (CMPC: Catholic Memorial and Pilgrimage Centre). However, now it becomes one of the most popular places for tourist destination. It offers experience of mountain trail.
Besides that, it also offers fantastic view at the peak of the mountain. So, if you want to explore the estern Malaysia, this mountain is challenging enough to visit.
How to Get There
This mountain is addressed in the Bau District area, Serawak, Malaysia. By car, it takes around 40 minutes. The road that leads to the mountain food is nice & sealed. You will also pass some Bidayuh villages during the trip.
Unfortunately, the parking area is not wide enough. Around the parking area, you will find many cafes which sell foods & drinks to the climbers.
Free Entrance but Help Out!
Mount Singai entrance fee is free. However, you will find so many colorful plastic bags near the entrance. Those are plastic bags that contain rocks and sands. They are meant for the construction & upgrade of a church & its facilities. So, it is very helpful if you help them to bring them up as you can to the pilgrimage area.
Climb Up to the Pilgrimage Area
It is not hard to climb up to the pilgrimage area because there are stairs from woods all the way. However, it may be tiring enough. You will find 14 rest stops where you can relax on the way. Each rest stop is marked with a cross. The rest stops not only be used for taking a rest but also as a place for prayer.
After you reach the pilgrimage area, you will see that the church is in the process of construction. Just drop the plastic bags near it and keep clean the area around.
The Adventure to the Summit
Now, the adventure to climb Mountain Singai begins. You just need to follow the marked path till you reach the peak. Unfortunately, the trail is not sealed. It takes more than an hour. There are many slippery tracks you will pass.
You will also pass a part that has ropes to help you climb up. Along the trek, you can take a rest a few times to control your breath.
The View of Mount Singai’s Summit
This mountain is not high enough. It is only 562 meters above the sea surface. So, it is appropriate for beginners of climber. Even though the mountain is not too high, the trekking is challenging enough and the view is not disappointing. Once you reach the peak, you will feel great. The view is instagrammable so that you can take pictures and selfies to make your journey unforgettable.
Many climbers usually start climbing in the morning or noon and they go back down in the afternoon. However, you can also camp there. If you bring a camping tent, you can stay at the peak longer. So, you can see more beautiful views such as when the sunrise and sunset come. Of course, enjoying the sunrise and sunset from the peak of mountain is much more pleasuring.
